Could Final Fantasy Resonance Become Square Enix’s Next Great RPG Series?

The first Resonance has already demonstrated that the original mobile storyline can be reorganized to fit a full-priced offline game. A follow-up could use the same approach, refining the narrative and adjusting its pacing to suit a more traditional console RPG.
One of the elements that makes Resonance distinctive is its Vision system. Through this mechanic, players can summon representations of familiar characters from across the Final Fantasy franchise. These Visions provide additional abilities and allow party members to develop different combat roles.
The Siliconera writer sees an opportunity to expand this feature in a potential sequel. More classic heroes could join the roster alongside characters created specifically for Brave Exvius, giving longtime fans additional reasons to explore the game.
However, introducing too many Visions could make character customization unnecessarily complicated. One possible solution would be to let party members equip multiple Visions and switch between them during combat. Such a feature could provide greater flexibility when facing enemies with different weaknesses or when changing a character’s role during a battle.
The game could also benefit from allowing players to replace reserve party members more freely. These adjustments would build upon the existing combat system instead of completely changing its foundation.
