Could Final Fantasy Resonance Become Square Enix’s Next Great RPG Series?
--
TAME OTONITY – The world of Final Fantasy Resonance may have more stories worth exploring than its first game can contain. Following the release of this new turn-based RPG, a review published by Siliconera has raised an interesting possibility: Square Enix should consider developing another installment rather than leaving the remaining story of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius untouched.
The idea comes from the writer’s enthusiasm for the remake and its potential to expand into a larger series. Final Fantasy Resonance reimagines the first season of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game that originally launched in 2015.
The original title eventually ended its service, with its Japanese version closing in October 2025 after five seasons. Its international release had already shut down in October 2024, leaving overseas players with only four seasons.
Rather than simply reproducing the mobile experience, Resonance presents the story as a standalone console and PC adventure. It follows Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as they travel across the world of Lapis to prevent the Sworn Six of Paladia from destroying its crystals.
The remake also removes the original gacha structure and reshapes the experience around a traditional single-player RPG format. Producing five individual games would likely stretch the concept too far and risk making the experience repetitive. Instead, the remaining material could potentially be adapted into one or two additional titles.
The second and fourth seasons are considered particularly substantial, while the third reportedly functions more like an intermediary storyline. The final season, meanwhile, serves as the conclusion to the larger narrative. This structure could give the developers enough material to create a continuation without requiring an excessive number of sequels.
