Avatar: Seven Havens Is Officially the Franchise's First Mystery Show
In an earlier interview, DiMartino had already positioned viewers to treat Seven Havens as a mystery series, stating, "Early on, we also decided we wanted this to be more of a mystery show than the last two series So that a viewer would enter the story with a lot of questions: How did the world get so bad? Why does everyone hate the Avatar? How did Pavi lose her leg? We want the audience to always hunger to know more."
Avatar: Seven Havens premiered on Paramount+ on Oct. 9 and introduced audiences to a far different version of the world they know from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Set around 200 years after the events of Korra, the landscape of Avatar: Seven Havens is one that is still reeling from an apocalyptic event that altered both the physical and metaphysical state of the entire world.
The official logline for Avatar: Seven Havens reads, "A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse."

What Critics and Audiences Think of Avatar: Seven Havens So Far
Upon its premiere, Avatar: Seven Havens was met with widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. As of writing, the series holds a perfect 100% "Certified Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 20 critical reviews. For comparison, the series also boasts an 80% audience-generated "Popcornmeter" score, as averaged across more than 100 user-submitted ratings.
CBR's Katie Doll said of Avatar: Seven Havens, "Pretty much everything fans of the original series and Legend of Korra fell in love with has aged out and disappeared, given the passage of time and loss of significant culture. Such a deficit is a double-edged sword: a fresh story and entertaining characters arise out of the rubble, while the grief of a cherished, realized world sometimes casts a dark shadow."
Doll added, "Seven Havens shows a lot of promise for an experimental undertaking that changes everything people know about the Avatar and its world. The series nicely unfolds each layer of its new world and the secrets behind it little by little, incorporating it into the plot as the twins find clues to their own past... The Avatar franchise has proven itself far more than enough to ensure Seven Havens will do just fine once it finds its rhythm."
