Final Fantasy Free Trial

The Final Fantasy XI free trial update for the MMORPG—promised by Square Enix—is now available; this update adjusts the time limit and level cap (raising it to level 75) for what is essentially an expanded demo version of FFXI. The official website has been updated to confirm that anyone can return and start playing for free on PC. The announcement also notes that existing Free Trial accounts can be reused following these changes, even if players had previously hit the 14-day time limit or the level 50 cap. The download for this version is available via the Square Enix Store.

These changes were first revealed during the "Freshly Picked Vana’diel" event in May 2026, with a planned launch for September 2026. Producer and Director Yoji Fujito reconfirmed the Final Fantasy XI free trial adjustments on September 3, 2026, while discussing the changes in the new version. The statement indicated that the FFXI free trial level cap would be raised first. He then stated that the time limit would be removed at the "end of September." He also promised "various initiatives" to make the trial period more appealing.

This coincides with the return of several campaigns to FFXI. One of these is the Moogle Support Campaign for New & Returning Adventurers, which runs until October 12, 2026. The More Strange Happenings in Vana’diel event will also conclude on that date. Players also have the opportunity to obtain the new Travesty weapon, as well as the returning Demonic Axe weapon, the Shadow Lord shirt body armor, and a Shadow Lord statue furnishing. Final Fantasy XI is available on PC, and the updated FFXI free trial—featuring no time limit and a level cap of 75—is now playable.
