Review: Trails in the Sky: Chapter 2 Brings a Great JRPG Story to a Close
--
Well, as you’d expect from *Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter*, which is a direct sequel to *1st Chapter*, that means there are several ways to play it. Ideally, you’d play both games in sequence. You can import save data so that items like classic costumes, other items, and Estelle’s level carry over.
You can also start with the demo and carry over that save data. For first-time players, this is an option. Falcom does include a short summary video that’s a condensed version of everything that happened in the original game.
I’ve watched it. The video is good and might be suitable for some people. But this is really about enjoying both parts in their entirety, and you’ll miss out on a lot if you don’t.
In my opinion, the overall execution also makes Estelle feel more believable. In the first game, the storyline felt a bit more structured. Here, there’s more freedom when walking or fast-traveling around Liberl to complete campaign missions.
Side quests and optional activities like fishing. It’s as if Falcom is telling Estelle and the player, “You know what you’re doing. Have fun. I trust you’ll return to face the main enemy in the end.”
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a JRPG remake just as extraordinary as the 1st Chapter. Nihon Falcom hasn’t let us down again. Together, these two games tell a truly fantastic story, and I’d go so far as to say this might be one of the developer’s best works. Coupled with a great battle system and quality-of-life improvements like faithful localization and a practical fast-travel system, this game is definitely worth playing.
