TAME OTONITY – Studio Bones was officially founded in October 1998 by Masahiko Minami, Hiroshi Osaka, and Toshihiro Kawamoto. These three former key staff members of Studio Sunrise decided to leave in order to gain full creative freedom in anime production, as Sunrise had become too dominant in the mecha anime genre—particularly *Gundam*.

That is where the name “Bones” came from, symbolizing their determination to create anime with a solid foundation, just like bones.
