The story centers on Layla Llewellyn, an orphan who lost her parents at a young age. After being raised by indifferent relatives who often treated her poorly, Layla was eventually sent to live with her uncle, Bill Remmer, a gardener at the luxurious Arvis estate owned by the aristocratic Herhardt family.
At the Arvis estate, Layla grows into a young woman who loves nature and leads a peaceful, if simple, life. However, her life changes drastically when she meets Matthias von Herhardt, the young duke who rules over Arvis. Matthias is known as the perfect nobleman—cold and aloof—and is nicknamed the “beautiful bird slayer” because of his passion for hunting.
Matthias, who initially lived without deep emotions, began to feel unsettled and obsessed with Layla—a girl who was not dazzled by his status and power. This obsession slowly turned into a toxic relationship, filled with psychological tension and a love-hate dynamic.
Arvis becomes a suffocating golden cage for Layla, where Matthias finds a strange satisfaction in seeing her tears—to the point where he wants to make her beg him.
