In 2013, the series won the Grand Prize of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, the annual award sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun and given to manga artists or works that follow Osamu Tezuka's manga approach. Kingdom inspired an anime adaptation produced by Studio Pierrot (Bleach: Millennium War of Blood) that lasted 143 episodes over five seasons, with season 1, directed by Jun Kamiya, having 38 episodes; season 2, directed by Akira Iwanaga, having 39; seasons 3 and 4 having 26 episodes each, and season 5 had 13. Kazuya Monma directed seasons 3 and 4, and participated in season 5 alongside Kenichi Imaizumi. The upcoming English release of the Kingdom manga will allow the series to reach a whole new global audience.

As Shibashou's main force moved to attack Ousen, Kan Saro's cavalry hit Sou'Ou's forces from the side with another 10,000 infantry following. Ji Aga also continued its attack and they pinned Sou'Ou down. Denrimi was seriously wounded and said that they had to get to Ousen quickly or else the Qin army would be trapped. Sou'Ou agrees saying that they close his army and Akou's army so that Shibashou can advance unharmed.
